Development

 Development

LinkUp is a program that links Carnegie hall orchestras together with schools.  I was the music teacher during the link up ‘Artists in the Schools” program.  I taught 2-6th grade students how to play the recorder.  I started students from ground zero (no prior experience for students) to playing “Ode to Joy” on the recorders.  Each grade had different lessons as were physiologically and academically developmentally appropriate.  K-1 sang and acted out several songs that I taught them which were developmentally appropriate (Piaget’s Theory of developmentally appropriate education.)  The final hurrah was getting to participate in a huge on-stage concert with the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra accompanying our K-6.  What a grand delight to see the development of students from not knowing how to play recorder at all to a quality performance.
