Adaptations for Diversity
.
Heart Character Traits incorporated both Health and Social Studies standards. The lesson was differentiated in several ways. First, the whole class brainstormed trait ideas and gave examples. Next I modeled two different ways of doing the project. The first method was making a heart, all one color with different traits the student liked. The second way is shown below. Students chose their own positive traits and traits they admire in others. They color coded them with a map. Some students were also given a list of 100 character traits to circle and choose from. The ELL students needed the list to identify familiar traits both for self and others. Ultimately, students had flexibility in choosing the number of traits in the heart. Students who completed the project quickly went onto Discoveyed.com and watched the video clip: A Case for Character.
